In Finland, where Verto Analytics was founded and where we still maintain our headquarters and Finnish Center of Excellence, June always serves as a big annual milestone. Juhannus, our traditional midsummer holiday, divides the first part of the year from the rest, and we celebrate with festivals, bonfires, drinks, sausages, and swimming in one of Finland’s thousands of lakes. It’s also a chance for reflection; as I consider the past six months as well as those ahead, I can’t help feeling incredibly proud of our team’s accomplishments, and excited for the rest of 2017 and beyond.
Verto, Five Years in the Making
Since my cofounders and I founded the company nearly five years ago, Verto has gone through many different stages of development. Our small core team initially spent the bulk of their time inventing, prototyping, and building groundbreaking new solutions for cross-platform audience measurement, and finalizing our methodology. Since then, we’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the biggest advertising, technology, and digital publishing companies in the world, honing and refining our team and our products. And this is just the beginning: over the past 12 months, we have cemented our reputation as a go-to-source for cross-platform audience insights, and have expanded our product offerings to provide our customers with more specialized solutions for advertising sales and survey-based research tied to behavioral data, and created new products to address in-app usage, video, and advertising measurement.
I am also delighted that we have been able to participate in some of the technology and market research industry’s biggest events. At the GSMA’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we released our groundbreaking and new report on multi-tasking metrics and showcased how our in-app data is influencing the mobile app measurement and behavioral analytics market in the same way that ComScore, Hitwise and Compete influenced the web analytics market for PCs 10 years ago. We think mobile apps are the new way for consumers to engage with digital services and content, and we’re excited to be at the leading edge of analytical innovation in this area.
Our growth and innovation has been also recognized by important investors and industry organizations. As a venture-backed growth company, we have been cited as one of the top three growth companies in Finland by the Finnish Venture Capital Association. We are investing in our Finnish Center of Excellence in Helsinki, strengthening our core operations, products, business development to support our sales teams and clients in markets that now include the U.S., UK, Japan, and China. We have also expanded the Verto team with some great new hires: I’m pleased to welcome Dr. Juuso Karikoski, who conducted pioneering Ph.D. work around passive measurement, and Tero Lindberg, whose extensive technical project management experience includes significant leadership roles with Seven, Kiosked, Nielsen and Arbitron.
A Look Ahead
What’s next? I’ve been getting that question a lot these days. Most of our work over the next 12 months will focus on further improving the scope of our data across new devices and platforms – possibly challenging the definition of TV in doing this – and improving the scope of our data in terms of in-app metrics, video measurement, and advertising. We are also launching new interfaces and deliverables on top of our data which will make our information more appealing and actionable for a wider range of customers for year 2018 – these include new reporting formats, business intelligence layers, and data feed/API access.
We’ve also got a busy schedule of conferences and tradeshows ahead of us: I’m looking forward to seeing familiar faces and new clients alike at the ARF’s Audience Measurement in New York, and at the TV of Tomorrow and MobileBeat conferences in San Francisco this summer. Today, we issued a press release highlighting our accomplishments to date, but there are many more to come.
